Supporting Our LGBTQ+ Community

At Coombe Wood School, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, including those from the LGBTQ+ community. We believe in promoting acceptance, understanding, and respect throughout all aspects of school life, ensuring every student feels valued and safe.

Assemblies and PSHE: Our assemblies and Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education programmes regularly address issues related to LGBTQ+ rights and experiences. We provide students with the knowledge and understanding needed to appreciate diversity and challenge stereotypes and discrimination. Our curriculum includes discussions on identity, relationships, and the importance of inclusivity, fostering a school culture where everyone is free to be themselves.

Co-curricular Activities: In addition to our formal curriculum, we offer a range of co-curricular activities that support and celebrate our LGBTQ+ students. These include clubs, workshops, and events designed to promote understanding and solidarity amongst all students. These activities provide safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students to express themselves and connect with allies.

Protected Characteristics: We are committed to upholding the principles of equality as outlined in the Equality Act 2010, which includes sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics. Our policies and practices are designed to protect all students from discrimination and to promote equal opportunities. By embracing these principles, we prepare our students to thrive in a diverse and inclusive Britain, where everyone is respected and valued for who they are.

At Coombe Wood School, acceptance and support for LGBTQ+ students are not just policies but integral parts of our school ethos. We are proud of our inclusive environment and continually strive to make our school a welcoming place for everyone.
