Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
What is Inclusion?
According to the SEND Code of Practice (January 2015), a child or young person has SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) if they have a learning difficulty or disability requiring special educational provision.
A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:
- Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
- Have a disability that prevents or hinders them from using facilities generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or post-16 institutions.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
All Croydon schools, including Coombe Wood School, are committed to meeting the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs. We believe that every student, regardless of their specific needs, should receive inclusive teaching that enables them to make the best possible progress and actively participate in all aspects of school life, preparing them for the next phase of their education.
At Coombe Wood School, we adhere to Croydon Local Authority’s guidance on provision for children with SEND in mainstream schools. This guidance outlines how students with various additional needs are supported within the school.
