Olympian and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey Inspires Year 7 Students with His Journey of Determination and Sportsmanship

Today, our Year 7 students were treated to an unforgettable assembly, led by none other than Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, the world-class sprinter and TV personality, also known as "Nitro" from BBC's Gladiators. His visit was a thrilling opportunity for our students to hear directly from an athlete who has reached the pinnacle of both the sporting and entertainment worlds.

Harry, who has represented Great Britain at the Olympics and won multiple European and Commonwealth gold medals, shared the highs and lows of his journey to success. From his early days as a student in London, he rose to prominence by winning gold in both the 100m and 200m at the World Youth Championships in 2005, becoming the first athlete in history to do so. That same year, Harry was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and was recognised as the IAAF’s Rising Star of the Year.

In addition to individual success, Harry emphasised the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship, highlighting his experience in relay events. He proudly recalled his role in helping Team GB secure gold medals in the 4x100m relay at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Now known to millions as "Nitro," a formidable contender in the latest season of BBC's Gladiators, Harry’s visit was a perfect example of what can be achieved through dedication, resilience, and a passion for what you do. He spoke not just about winning medals but also about the values that have carried him throughout his career—hard work, respect for others, and never giving up in the face of challenges.

For our Year 7 students, the assembly was more than just a chance to meet a famous athlete. It was an inspiring reminder that no matter where you start, the combination of talent, determination, and good sportsmanship can lead to incredible achievements.

Thank you, Harry, for inspiring the next generation of champions here at our school!
